It is hard to believe that on January 7th it is 8 degrees above 0 outside, everyday of warm weather is one less day of winter! We have had a wonderful fall and winter, the winners page has been updated with all of our results. We are looking forward to an exciting 2012 with many new and exciting plans and projects in the works. Stay tuned for many details and announcements to come. We hope that your 2012 looks as bright as ours, all the best in 2012.

Brothers From Different Mothers Sale Update
by Katie Roxburgh on 08/06/11Back this year to the sale offering will be a selection of bull calves. We have offered bull calves in the fall sale previously with great success and always enjoy visiting with those Dun Rite customers looking to choose their bull prospects early. Details will be outlined the first week of September for the bull calves, but all bull calves will be developed and wintered at Dun Rite until spring 2012. Watch for more details coming soon.
Summer Happenings
by Katie Roxburgh on 07/29/11
We have had a busy summer so far. Including the Calgary Stampede Steer Show, judging the Focus on 4-H horse show in Barrhead and are off to judge the Prince George steer show in August amongst other things.
The steers are looking phenomenal for the sale this fall. A change this year will be the abscence of heifers from our sale. We have made this decision to retain all of our 2011 heifers in our herd. Over the last few years we have been working hard to secure land and set up our place to handle a larger number of cows. We feel we are in a position to grow our cow herd. We have had great success in selling our heifers the last two years and would like to sincerely thank all of those buyers who have purchased heifers from us. We hope that this decision to retain our heifers now will result in a larger offering of exceptional females in the years to come.
We are excited for September 24th and encourage everyone to come for a visit and have a look at the cattle. Information will be posted over the next few weeks about the sale keep checking back often.
What A Spring .... The Steers Look Great
by Katie Roxburgh on 05/30/11We have been attending the 4-H Show and Sales this spring to see all of the steers purchased from last falls Dun Rite steer sale. With one more show to attend to see the last few steers, so far we have a Grand Champion, Club Champion, Reserve Club Champion, Club Rate of Gain Winner (3.56 lbs/day), Reserve Rate of Gain Winner (3.61 lbs/day) and two steers that are headed to Calgary for the Steer Classic. We are extremely proud of how all of the steers have turned out and the great job all of the youth have done with them.
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
by Katie Roxburgh on 03/29/11
It has been one of the snowiest and coldest years to calve in, but we can see the light! With only 5 or 6 cows left to go we are extremely excited about the future prospect steers, herd bulls and replacement heifers playing in the fields. Dr. Seuss 30T once again did not disapoint us with another incredible set of calves and a few more still to come. This year marked the first set of calves from Hall's Crossing 454W, we have decided they were worth the wait. Healthy, thick, correct and hairy, what more could we ask for? A new addition to the bull pen this year will be a Wall Street son. He will be walking with the heifers this year and some of our purebred Angus cows. We will wait patiently to see what that cross will be like next year.
Good luck to everyone at the prospect shows this spring we can't wait to see the Dun Rite steers and heifers out and about. Keep us updated on all of your show results.
If only the weather wasn't so cold!
by Katie Roxburgh on 03/04/11We are officially half way through calving and except for the winter deep freeze we have experienced the last three weeks we are having a great calving season so far (knock on wood)! The heifers are all done except for four and there are definatley a few show steer prospects in the pen sired by an OCC Legend bull. With all of the cold weather the calves are doing surprisingly well lots running around with ear muffs on their ears or their ears duct taped to their bodies! Since March came in like a lion lets hope it does go out like a lamb. We have sure had our fair share of winter this year!
February Thoughts
by Katie Roxburgh on 02/09/11
It seems every time I sit down to right on this I realize how long it has been since the last time I was here and updated this. You don't realize how busy you get until you look at the calendar and realize you don't have a free weekend available until the end of March! Oh well we enjoy the clinics and everyone we get to meet! We are busy with final preparations for our Livestock Judging clinic on February 26th. Then will put the finishing touches on our annual Clipping and Fitting clinic and Horse Show Grooming clinic.
As I look out the window and see the calves playing in the snow it makes you realize that the 5 hours sleep in the last two nights is worth it! We are extremely excited with the calves we have already and are still waiting for our first calf from Hall's Crossing 454 to arrive!
It is -37 degrees celsius right now with the wind chill hardly the weather to be thinking about horse shows but we are! The two year olds are coming along great and back to work for some of the aged horses is a bit of a reality check!
As I always do I will promise to update this more often. Send us your comments and thoughts we love to hear from everybody.
